What to expect

"Homespun Picnic Jubilee"  That's the kind of party we're throwing:  think paper plates and campfires, lawn games and live music, good vibes and good food by the bay.  The nuptials will be Quaker-inspired, so expect a quiet ceremony where those who wish to speak can share a story or your reflections about the two of us.

The wedding will be outdoors rain or shine.  Chances are it will be hot, humid, and (hopefully) sunny.  Average temperatures for June are 97 (high) and 48 (low). There will be shade under two large tents.  You will be walking on grass and gravel.  If it rains, things could get muddy, even though we'll try to keep everyone dry.

The Schedule (aka The Playbill)

Our shindig will be pretty laid back, but here is what we have in mind:
3:00 ..... You arrive, and the Beer & Whimsy Garden opens!
4:00 ..... Seating Begins
4:30 ..... Ceremony by the Bay
5:30 ..... Cheese Hour & Lawn Games
6:30 ..... Dinner!
7:30 ..... Music!  Dancing!  Merriment!
11:00 ... After Party (which we hope will last into the wee hours!)

Set-up Volunteers, please arrive at 10AM on Saturday, 6/3
Clean-up Volunteers, please arrive at 10AM on Sunday, 6/4

What to wear

Think comfortable and colorful and a little on the snazzy side.  Rock that personal sense of style!  If you're looking for inspiration, think "What would I wear to a Cricket Match if I knew I were going to Jazz Fest with Leon Bridges or Gwen Stefani afterwards?"  We imagine that sundresses and  light button-ups will rule the day, but hey:  feel like combining shorts and formalwear?  Fine with us.  Tuxedo with a tie-die cumberbun?  Sure.  Kilt and full regalia?  Why not.

Also, fancy HATS are encouraged!  There will be a feather bar so you can dress up your hat if you like.

Finally, bring something warm if you think you might stay late for the after-party.

The Menu

The whole shindig will be catered by our friends Josh, Maggie, and Ian at Farmers Keep, one of our favorite restaurants in Philly.  They specialize in delicious, wholesome, farm-to-table food with a creative twist.  Most dishes will be free of common food allergies (gluten, eggs, dairy, tree nuts, and shellfish).  Of course, we'll have a few of these items available and they will be labeled (did you really think the two of us could get married without CHEESE?!?).  The meal will be served buffet-style and there will be veggie and vegan options, so hopefully everyone can find something they love.  We will serve a variety of beer, wine, and soft drinks.

The Venue

Hances is a treasure:  a rustic, laid-back, do-it-yourself boating club full of friendly people who love the Chesapeake Bay.   They call it a yacht club, but it's much more "Skipper and Gilligan" than it is "Thurston Howel the Third."   A few of the Skippers may be launching boats during the event; please watch out for their (slow-moving) traffic.  We discovered Hances just last year when we took over Mark's family's boat, and we've already had some terrific adventures there.  We can't wait to create another on June 3rd with all of you!

Parking

Parking

Parking Layout

Mark and Moriah Wedding Layout.JPG

We're expecting about 100 - 125 cars.  We can fit 80 of them on site (carpooling helps!).  Please follow the posted parking signs, and check out the diagram above so you  know where to go.  Basically, stay to the right as you enter the venue.

After on-site parking fills up, folks will need to park in the overflow lot, which is in a field just down the road.  It's close and easy to find--only 0.4 miles on a straight road with no turns...click on the button for a map!).  We have a golf cart to ferry you to and from the overflow lot, or if you prefer it's a pleasant walk through a residential neighborhood.

Parking at both locations is free!

more Questions?

more Questions?

Wheel chair access?

The terrain is generally flat, with gravel or grass surfaces.  There are accessible bathrooms on site.

Safety?

BOATS:  Our boat club will be fully operational during the day.  Off-limits areas will be marked.  Please respect these boundaries.

KIDS:  Answer these questions before deciding to bring kids along:

  1. Can they swim?  The Chesapeake Bay is a quick 10-ft drop from the edge of the lawn. We have several life jackets available.
  2. Do they respect fire?  There will be fire pits and candles burning all night long. S'mores at your own risk!
  3. Do they look both ways before crossing?  A small amount of slow-moving vehicle traffic is expected as boats are launched and retrieved.

Still have more questions?  Please feel free to email us at chapter10wedding@gmail.com!
